Umniah Supports Participation of Ten Jordanian Start-ups in Mobile World Congress Jordanian Pavilion Umniah has announced its strategic partnership for the Jordanian pavilion at the 2019 Mobile World Congress (MWC), organized by the Jordan ICT Association "Intaj", that was held at the Vera Gran Vía Conference Center in Barcelona, Spain, 25 - 28 February. The Conference was attended by more than 107,000 telecom leaders from 2,400 companies around the world. For the second year in a row, The Tank provided ten Jordanian entrepreneurs and start-ups with the opportunity to attend and participate in the “4 Years from Now” event taking place on the sidelines of MWC. This allowed participants to meet representatives from the world's leading ICT companies and to keep them abreast of the latest innovations in these companies. The startup companies that The Tank joined for “4YFN” are: Controlcast, Costo, Aperçu, Counterize, Takalam, Inno Pharma, SIMCAR, MellBell, Smart Data Logger. The start-up companies that participated in the “4YFN” platform have been identified as: 5 Jordanian startup companies hosted from Karak, Irbid, Oman and Germany, and 4 start-up companies, in addition to two being selected by two women from the ten projects involved. Commenting on the participation, Umniah CEO, Ziad Shatara, said: "Umniah is leading the list of telecommunications companies supporting the environment and the Jordanian entrepreneurship sector. In 2014, it launched its" The Tank "business incubator and in the past year, it has hosted 20 startups as well as other services to about 3,000 beneficiaries to help them develop these ideas, provide them with their needs, and save time, cost and effort." Shatara affirmed his keenness to participate in the Mobile World Congress held annually in Spain, with the aim of strengthening Jordan's position as a regional ICT hub. He also wished to showcase the progress and prosperity of the country in recent years in this sector and its ability to keep pace with the latest global developments. The Tank, the first incubator to provide virtual incubation services to start-ups outside Amman, provides advisory services, financial and legal advice, business development, marketing, networking, access to finance, facilitation of licensing procedures, and customs and tax exemptions. The Tank also launched the first pre-incubation ‘Internet of Things’ program that includes awareness sessions, brainstorming, vocational and technical training, and hacathon competitions that provide the ideal platform to support creative and innovative young people, and to stimulate innovative minds to create productive and income-generating projects and provide jobs. The exhibition and the Mobile World Congress (MWC) is the largest platform in the world for telecommunications and Information Technology companies and mobile phone companies, with more than 200 countries participating in the exhibition and more than 100,000 people from the world's ICT industry leaders.
