Umniah’s The 8Log Hosts Panel on Environmental and Social Sustainability

September 20, 2022 –: Umniah’s the 8Log recently hosted a panel discussion of experts entitled “Environmental and Social Sustainability: A National Priority and an Individual and Collective Responsibility.”

The dialogue session is an extension of the company’s continuous efforts to incorporate sustainability principles into different aspects of its work while simultaneously raising awareness and rewarding subscribers in order to encourage them to become active change agents towards a better, more viable future. The company launched its sustainability program in July, outlining the environmental, social, and corporate governance practices.

Commenting on the event, Umniah Chief Commercial Officer Zaid Al-Ibrahim said, “Umniah’s efforts to advance sustainability at a national level are in line with ongoing global efforts and reflect the importance of the concept as well as its impact on our lives, our future and that of generations to come. Our hope is that these efforts invigorate people to adopt proactive practices in order to combat climate change, reduce global warming and decrease their negative impact on the environment.” Al-Ibrahim thanked the session’s panelists, who’swhose expertise enriched the discussion and whowhom imparted valuable information and ideas based on both scientific and practical points of view.

The discussion, which was moderated by Sustainable Development Policy and Planning Expert Ruba Al-Zubi, addressed the reasons why environmental and social sustainability have become national necessities, adding that dialogue and awareness on national environmental issues are the first steps to enhancing the roles of individuals and companies. In addition to, contributing to the advancement of environmental, social, and corporate governance practices as well as raising awareness about the different concerns affecting the quality of life on Earth.

AlsoIn addition, during the session, WADI Association for Sustainable Ecosystem Development Founding Chair Mohammed Asfour offered his insights about how to transform environmental and climate challenges into opportunities that serve the economy and improve quality of life.
Environmental activist and Arab Group for the Protection of Nature President Razan Zuaiter highlighted the most prominent concepts and implications of sustainability at a local level, the steps taken to shift from theoretical applications to practical ones in the field, as well as the role of civil society institutions in mobilizing community efforts towards more sustainable practices.

Furthermore, panelist and EDAMA General Manager Anwar Elhalah spoke of the impact of climate change on the private sector, the long-term shifts witnessed by countries around the world in temperatures and weather patterns, activities that involve burning fossil fuels including coal, oil and gas, as well as the main challenges and negative effects that currently face the private sector.
Also, as part of the discussion, Arabia Weather Founder and CEO Mohammed Al-Shaker spoke about the impact of climate change on sustainability and its relationship to weather and quality of life. Al-Shaker went on to highlight the pivotal roles of technology, entrepreneurship, and innovation in addressing the consequences of climate change.

Speakers and attendees also had a chance to exchange ideas at the end of the session, touching on the spectrum of issues concerning corporate and individual sustainability and its impact and effect on both the lives of people and the planet as a whole.
