Umniah graduates the first batch of students from its Cyber Security Academy Paid training opportunities for outstanding students Amman, June 23 2019 Umniah, a subsidiary of Batelco Bahrain held a graduation ceremony for the first batch of students graduating from the Cyber Security Academy at Jordan University of Science and Technology, which included 25 students in total. Eng. Amjad Farouqa, Executive Director of Quality Assurance, Cyber Security and Business Continuity, handed over certificates to the graduate students on behalf of Umniah’s CEO Ziad Shatara, after attending a course on the basics of Cyber Security that spanned two months and consisted of eight sessions. In December of last year, Umniah announced the establishment of its first Cyber Security Academy in Jordan in cooperation with leading international companies in the field of Cyber Security as well as qualified Umniah personnel, with the aim of raising awareness among university students regarding Cyber Security and to prepare them to enter the job-market. Umniah further announced that it will provide three paid training opportunities for outstanding students of this graduating batch to complete their training at Umniah in cooperation with the Jordan Engineers Association. During the graduation ceremony, Farouqa congratulated the students who participated in the course, emphasizing that Umniah is reaping the benefits of its efforts in training and qualifying university students and enhancing their skills in the field of Information and Cyber Security, thus enabling them to address any risks or threats facing electronic systems and information networks. He also stressed that the establishment of Umniah’s Cyber Security Academy and the graduation of its first batch represents a qualitative leap in the Jordanian Cyber Security space, pointing out that Umniah is at the forefront of Jordan Telecom companies that contribute to spreading and increasing awareness of electronic threats that have witnessed steady growth in the last few years. Farouqa expressed his hope that the students of the first graduating batch of the Academy will make use of the knowledge and experience they have acquired to serve their country in the best way possible. It is worthwhile to note that the course, included several topics, including: Cyber Security, risk management, cryptography, cloud identity and access management, data security management, network security management, – servers / host security and scanning, secure applications for non-developers, an explanation about the security of mobile devices (the Internet of Things), and an explanation about compliance and auditing. Umniah intends to continue offering similar as well as advanced courses to students and graduates from various Jordanian universities and institutions.
