Umniah has taken part in the three-day Esri Middle East and North Africa User Conference (MENAUC) which was held under the patronage of Prime Minister Hani al Mulki. The conference was organized by InfoGraph, the sole authorized distributor of Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI). Umniah’s participation demonstrates its firm belief in the importance of geographic information systems and the strong link between them and the ICT and telecom sectors. Umniah CEO Ziad Shatara cited the importance of participating in these informative conferences that provide a learning opportunity and insight into the latest in ICT and software development trends. Shatara added that: “The role that geographic information systems play in helping shape governments’ urban planning decisions and building water, electricity and telecommunication networks make them of particular importance. Not only that, geographic information-based technologies, which use digital information to provide location-based intelligence using satellite images, are also quite essential for military and security planning.” For his Part, InfoGraph General Manager Mazen Jouaneh said more than 600 participants from Jordan, the region and beyond representing companies that rely on Esri’s software, have taken part in the conference that was held in the Dead Sea between Nov. 8 and 10. He added that the conference was an opportunity for participants to see the latest developments in geographic mapping software, while also networking with other experts in the field. On the sideline of the conference, an exhibition was held with the participation of 20 local and international companies that displayed their related services. Esri is a global leader in smart mapping and GIS software. Its User Conference provides participants with a chance to boost their skills by attending preconference seminars, technical workshops, paper sessions or demo theater presentations.
