Umniah Launches High-Speed Fiber-Optic Services in New Zarqa

September 2, 2020 – Amman, Jordan: Umniah, a subsidiary of Batelco Bahrain, has expanded its fiber-optic services to reach homes and businesses in the New Zarqa area of the Zarqa governorate. The move, which signals another step in its fiber-optic expansion plans, brings the number of areas that Umniah covers with this service to eight, namely New Zarqa, Hay Al-Baraka, Khalidi area, Al-Saliheen, Tabarbour, Tla’ Al-Ali, Al Yasameen, and Abu Nsair.

The area was chosen by Umniah because of its high population density, as it includes approximately 11,000 residences and commercial establishments.

Commenting on the expansion, Umniah CEO Ziad Shatara said, “Umniah continues to implement its ambitious strategy designed to advance the Jordanian telecommunications landscape by investing in the most innovative technological developments available. Umniah subscribers can now enjoy high Internet speeds reaching up to 1000 mb/s, which facilitates the uploading or downloading of large files, offers a high-quality viewer experience when watching high-definition videos or movies, and allows videogame players to play online without interruptions.” He added that the increased availability of high-speed Internet services helps companies realize their goals, further contributing to sustained development and growth throughout the country.

In February 2019, Umniah established “fibertech” in partnership with the Jordan Electricity Company (JEPCO) in order to provide new infrastructure for telecommunications through large-scale over-ground fiber optic network and ultra-fast internet services to communications companies and Internet service providers, reaching approximately 1.4 million homes and businesses in Amman.
