Umniah Gold Sponsor of Discussion Panel Titled: ‘Aligning Higher Education with ICT Sector Requirements’ Amman, Jordan, 1 March 2020: Umniah has announced its gold sponsorship of a discussion panel, held by the Information and Communications Technology Association of Jordan (Intaj), which discussed ways to align higher education outcomes with the requirements of the information and communications technology (ICT) sector, in partnership with Digiskills. Speakers at the panel included the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Dr. Mohieldin Touq, the Minister of Labor Engineer Nidal Bataineh, and the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Intaj Dr. Bashar Hawamdeh, in addition to the Managing Director of Oracle Jordan Raed Hajarat. Umniah’s Commercial Enterprise Director Mahmoud Abu Zanad expressed his pride in sponsoring this discussion panel, which highlighted the role of technical skills in reducing the gap between education and labor market requirements, as the sponsorship is in line with Umniah’s goals in finding a qualified and trained workforce that meets the needs of various sectors, notably the information and communications technology (ICT) sector. Abu Zanad said that the discussion panel highlighted the role and importance of the partnership between the public and private sectors, in order to support and develop all sectors, especially education. Abu Zanad stressed the leading role of Umniah in the education sector by enabling the right infrastructure using IP-based technologies, noting that the projects and initiatives implemented by Umniah have contributed to a qualitative shift in the efficiency of education, and have provided unconventional tools in the educational process, taking advantage of available resources on the internet. The Ministers of Education, Higher Education and Labor spoke at the beginning of the discussion panel about the importance of aligning the policies of public education, higher education, employment and human resources development, so that general education generates good outcomes for higher education, and the latter can align with the requirements of the labor market, in addition to discussing the Vocational and Technical Skills Development Commission law, which promotes public-private partnerships. The Chairman of the Board of Directors at Intaj Dr. Bashar Hawamdeh thanked Umniah for sponsoring the discussion panel, pointing out the importance of developing education and curriculum, and stressing the role of sector skills councils (SSCs) in bridging the gap between education and the requirements of the labor market. -End-
