December xx, 2020 – Amman, Jordan: The Umniah Cybersecurity Academy recently concluded its training seminar for students at Al-Ahliyyah Amman University (AAU) on cybersecurity, a move that is in line with its corporate social responsibility strategy. Falling under the umbrella of its Umniah Al-Khair program, the hugely successful seminar is another part of the company’s continuous efforts to raise awareness among Jordan’s university students as well as members of professional unions about the risks of cyberthreats and the damage they can wreak on countries, organizations, individuals and businesses.
The seminar, which was run by experts from the Umniah Cybersecurity Academy, was attended by 21 students from Al-Ahliyyah Amman University (AAU) and focused on giving attendees a thorough introduction to information security. Malek Al-Zewairi from the Umniah Security Operation Center (SOC) stressed the significance of the seminar, especially during the global coronavirus pandemic, which has necessitated the need for social distancing and working remotely. This, in turn, has led to an increased need for more stringent information security measures for companies and organizations all around the world.
Al-Zewairi went on to add that Umniah, thanks to its extensive expertise in the field of cybersecurity, has taken on the responsibility of spreading awareness and increasing the proficency of Jordanian university students as well as members of trade unions and professional associations, giving them the knowledge that will allow them to advance in the job market through their highly specialized knowledge. Al-Zewairi also spoke of Umniah’s position as a leader in the fields of security and cybersecurity, having established the Umniah Security Operation Center (SOC) in 2019, the first specialized cybersecurity management center to employ artificial intelligence, monitoring security gaps and threats, as well as providing services that help companies and organizations protect their data from the ever-increasing sophistication of cyberattacks.
Participants in the seminar thanked Umniah for the course’s effectiveness, covering a host of specialized themes in the field of cybersecurity that will only serve to empower them, raise their levels of awareness and increase their knowledge. Ali Omran, a seminar attendee, speaking about the topics covered, said, “I appreciate all of Umniah’s efforts, but especially those that focus on community. This cybersecurity seminar was very important to me, allowing me to increase my job prospects by supporting my interest in this field.” Seminar participant Layan Nowruz explained that one of the reasons she signed up was to learn about the principles of cybersecurity and to gain more experience in her chosen field of specialization. This will, in turn, broaden her perspectives, as well as those of all seminar participants, developing their depth of vision and giving them an edge in the job market. At the end of the seminar, students sat for an evaluation exam to assess their knowledge retention, with passing students receiving certificates of participation.
The Umniah Cybersecurity Academy, which was established in December 2018 and is the first of its kind in the Kingdom, is part of the telecom’s corporate social responsibility program and regularly holds specialized training courses and seminars in cybersecurity for university students, recent graduates and members of professional unions.
