Through Mahfzati Application in Cooperation with Naua Platform Umniah Al-Khair Supports 2500 Day Laborers during Ramadan May 4, 2020 – Amman, Jordan: In support of national efforts to fight the spread of coronavirus, and as part of Umniah’s deep belief in playing a positive role in the communities in which it operates, the company, under its Umniah Al-Khair umbrella, has partnered with Naua’s initiative “Their Daily Payment is on Us”. Umniah Al-Khair is an integral part of Umniah’s corporate social responsibility strategy, working to reinforce the values of communication, charity and solidarity among the members of its communities, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. This latest initiative by Umniah, created in cooperation with its strategic partner Naua, which is part of the Crown Prince Foundation (CPF), comes as a direct response to the Kingdom’s fight against the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. Through ‘Their Daily Payment is on Us’, 2500 day laborers registered with the Ministry of Social Affairs have access to money needed to pay for the needs of their family during Ramadan, and can also cash the amount deposited through the Mahfzati app at any one of Umniah’s accredited centers across Jordan. Commenting on the initiative, Umniah CEO Ziad Shatara said, “Over the past two months, Umniah and all its team members have gone to great lengths to support the state and its institutions in the fight against coronavirus, and for that I am deeply grateful.” Shatara continued by saying that the company would not hesitate to harness all its capabilities to mitigate the repercussions of the virus on all the country’s economic sectors, with a focus on education and health. Shatara went on to add, “With the advent of the blessed month of Ramadan, during which we focus our efforts on charitable initiatives as part of the annual Umniah Al-Khair campaign, and in response to the government’s directives that ban public gatherings, we decided to take a different approach, focusing instead on supporting daily laborers, who have been greatly affected by the curfew and the complete closure of a number of economic sectors.” Shatara commended the efforts of Naua and its clear impact on charity work, entrenching the concepts of equity and solidarity and strengthening the spirit of volunteerism in Jordanian society. He added that Umniah is pleased with its strategic cooperation agreement with the platform, and of its support of the ‘Their Daily Payment is on Us’ campaign. Naua CEO Ahmad al-Zu’bi expressed his appreciation for Umniah’s efforts to support the platform since its inception, contributing to the payment of the costs and expenses of the electronic platform’s operation, donating to its initiatives annually as well as organizing and following up on ongoing efforts by Naua partners. Umniah, as part of its corporate social responsibility strategy, also regularly contributes to initiatives that work towards the betterment of society in the fields of culture, education, sports and youth. Al-Zu’bi explained that the “Their Daily Payment is on Us” Initiative directly ties into the recommendations issued in a report by the International Labor Organization, which call for taking equitable and comprehensive measures when responding to the economic crisis resulting from the coronavirus pandemic. The report warned of an increase in poverty levels for day laborers at a global level due to decreased work hours resulting from preventive measures imposed to mitigate the outbreak in many countries, including Jordan. Umniah Al-Khair, which has been a pillar of the company since its establishment, is the umbrella for all the company’s charitable works, and aims to support cultural and developmental projects that contribute to the betterment of society. -End-
