The 8Log Announces the Winners of the Second Writing Competition for University Students on Thursday

March 2023

December 15, 2020 – Amman, Jordan: In celebration of UN Arabic Language Day, which this year falls on December 18, 2020, the 8Log is announcing the winners of its writing competition for university students on Thursday, December 17, 2020.

The competition, which was kicked off on November 2020 for the second consecutive year, is a way to encourage and inspire students to revive and augment their use of the Arabic language. A first-of-its kind, the writing competition aims to enrich the availability of original Arabic content available online while simultaneously shedding light on the incredible talent of youth in Jordan, which has become a center for innovation and human resources in the Arab region.

Competition participants had to follow a stringent set of guidelines, which culminated in five students qualifying for the finals, who were then eligible to participate in an Arabic writing seminar on the principles of business and content writing held by Anwan, a startup with Umniah’s incubator “The Tank”.

The panel of distinguished judges includes Hashtag Arabi Editor in Chief Ibrahim Khraisat, Edraak Course Manager Nisreen Rawashdeh, Crown Prince Foundation Director Nujoud Serhan and Umniah Corporate Communications Supervisor Batoul Arnaout. The judges ensured that the articles are consistent with the competition’s criteria, including the clear and concise use of the Arabic language, an uncomplicated writing style, the provision of new and stimulating information, and content consistent with search engine optimization metrics on topics such as technology, cybersecurity, entertainment, lifestyle, health, sports, travel, arts and culture, professional advice, and entrepreneurship.

The first three winners will be announced on Thursday during a virtual event moderated by Rula Nassraween, CSR Senior Officer at Umniah.

The 8Log competition will also witness user voting for favorites, with three voters receiving 30,000 umnicoins for their participation. First 3 winners will receive exclusive gifts from Umniah.

Umniah CEO Ziad Shatara wished all participants the best of luck, adding that through the second year of this competition, the 8Log has achieved a number of pre-set goals, including showcasing the beauty and richness of the Arabic language and maximizing the availability of sophisticated and educational Arabic content, which is still grossly underrepresented in cyberspace. Shatara went on to add that, in the two years since its launch, the 8Log has become a favorite Arabic content platform for those seeking a reliable source of information, research materials on a number of issues, and as a medium for information inspired by the interests and needs of Arab youth.

The 8Log, Umniah’s official blog, is the first to present specialized content in Arabic, in the company’s bid to enrich the availability of Arabic content on the web. The blog offers specialized information on a variety of subjects, and sheds light on innovative Jordanian initiatives as well as success stories that stand out in the world of entrepreneurship.
