Umniah, First Operator to Launch Apple Pay in Collaboration with STS PayOne

Jan 15, 2023 – Umniah, Jordan’s fastest-growing network, today brings its customers Apple Pay, 15a safer, more secure and private way to pay on both its application and website, making Umniah the first telecom operator in Jordan to do so.

Umniah customers who own Apple devices will be able to use Apple Pay, available on iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, and Mac devices, to make payments via the Umniah app or the Umniah website easily, quickly, and securely.

Apple Pay, is an electronic payment service developed by Apple which allows users to make payments using a variety of Apple devices. It is highly secure due to Apple not storing actual card information, but rather assigning a unique Device Account Number, encrypted, and securely stored in the Secure Element, an industry-standard, certified chip designed to store the payment information safely on the device. The transaction is only completed after the user agrees to deduct the amount, either by verifying the user’s identity on Apple devices or by entering the one-time verification code. Apple Pay can be use at any payment terminal to make a contactless payment, eliminating the need for using a physical card.

Zaid Al-Ibrahim, Umniah’s Chief Commercial Officer, expressed his pride in the fact that Umniah is the first telecom operator in Jordan to offer the Apple Pay service on its application and online store, a new digital payment method to be added to the other payment channels approved in Jordan and Umniah.

Al-Ibrahim went on to say that the launch of this service is in line with Umniah’s strategy to support digital transformation in the Kingdom, as well as the introduction of the most recent digital solutions and services to the local market.
