Umniah Signs Agreement with Electricity Distribution Company to Supply Electrical Smart Meters April xx, 2019 – Amman, Jordan: Umniah, a subsidiary of Batelco Bahrain, announced the signing of a cooperation agreement with the Electricity Distribution Company (EDCO) that will supply smart electricity meters, which can be utilized to serve the southern areas of the Kingdom. The agreement, which was signed between EDCO’s General Manager Engineer Hassan Althnebat and Umniah’s CEO Ziad Shatara, also saw the attendance of senior team members from both companies. This latest cooperation agreement is a reflection of the public and private sectors trust in Umniah’s enterprise solutions and the unmatched reputation services , with a particular focus on offering cybersecurity and business solutions. It also underscores the telecom giant’s pioneering position in these areas, providing services and solutions in communications and information technology that help institutions grow and succeed. The smart meters will be able to identify wastage in the electrical network or reveal if a meter has been subjected to manipulation, and will also have the ability to be connected and disconnected remotely. At the signing, Shatara said, “This agreement, which will see Umniah provide smart meters to EDCO, is an extension of the significant strategic partnerships and cooperation between Umniah with the public and private sectors.” Shatara went on to add, “Umniah believes that this agreement will be the stepping stone for a new business track that will accommodate potential changes to the provision of IP-Based solutions such as the Unified Communication and Collaboration (UCC) service, cloud hosting services, cybersecurity and managed security services (MSS) through Umniah’s security operation center (SOC), machine to machine (M2M) solutions and the Internet of Things (IoT), which all provided by Umniah efficiently and effectively.” Shatara also explained, “The implementation of this project, which is just one of the sizeable business dealings that benefit from our extensive network and offerings in communications and business solutions, is a cornerstone in achieving digital transformation, becoming a smart city and achieving sustainability.” He added that Umniah held Jordan’s first-ever successful Internet of Things test in 2018 by connecting smart electric meters to the grid. EDCO’s articles of establishment and its issuance license specify the company’s sphere of activity and its fundamental objectives, which include the installation, operation and maintenance of the electricity grid within the distribution and retail provision company area, as well as retail distribution and the provision of electric power to consumers within its area of operation to the highest specifications and quality standards in order to satisfy demand for power at the highest levels of efficiency and the lowest possible costs. – End –
