Umniah’s Cyber Security Academy Relaunches with Training Courses at Al-Ahliyya Amman University

October 25, 2020 – Amman, Jordan: As part of its continuous efforts to increase awareness surrounding the risks of cyberthreats and the challenges they pose to Jordan’s business environment and its national economy, Umniah has relaunched its Cyber Security Academy. The academy, which is operated in cooperation with the Center for Consulting and Continuous Education at the Al-Ahliyya Amman University, is now running an introductory training course exclusively for the university’s students on information security. The course, which is divided into eight sessions distributed over two-hour lectures, will end with a final exam to test knowledge retention, with passing students eligible to receive a certificate from the Umniah Cyber Security Academy.

The course addresses a number of issues pertaining to cybersecurity, as well as an introduction to information security and the strategy in place at the Umniah Security Operation Center (SOC) to help companies protect their valuable data.

Umniah, a leader in the Jordanian cybersecurity market, established an academy in 2019 that looks to develop and reinforce individual information security skills of as a means of confronting and mitigating cyberthreats and security challenges in the field of information systems.

The academy prepares both students and graduates by building and strengthening their skill sets through hands-on training and cyber- and information security seminars, as well as an in-depth look into the different types of cyberthreats and the dangers they pose, allowing them to advance in the job market through their highly specialized knowledge.

Commenting on relaunch of the academy, Umniah CEO Ziad Shatara spoke of Umniah’s leading position as the most reliable telecommunications operator in the Jordanian market, and the outstanding role it plays in the national economy. He outlined its numerous efforts and accomplishments in a number of fields, including raising awareness about the threats posed by weak cybersecurity.

Al-Ahliyya Amman University Chairman of the Board of Directors Dr. Maher Al-Hourani spoke of the deep partnership between the educational institution and Umniah, an innovator in cybersecurity. He explained that these training courses for university students is in line with the university’s constant efforts to develop and enrich their experiences, supplying the Jordanian labor market with highly-qualified individuals with extensive knowledge in specialized fields. Dr. Al-Hourani stressed the importance of cyber- and information security, particularly now with the emergence of the fourth industrial revolution, or the data revolution, which necessitates heightened security against electronic threats.

Umniah’s SOC has been recognized with the international ISO27001 certification for managing information security, which underlines that the company’s operations and procedures are in full compliance with international best practices, including preserving client information and secure processes when exchanging information and data. Umniah has also received the international ISO22301:2012 certification for managing business continuity, which affirms that the company implements all the necessary requirements to reduce the potential for accidents and to mitigate their negative effects by setting precautionary plans for recovery, offering its clients continuous and uninterrupted services. SOC has also received the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard (PCI DSS) certification from the Security Standards Council.
