Umniah and Dialogue Journalism Announce First Competition Winners

Umniah and Dialogue Journalism Program, launched by the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID), announced the winners of its first edition. The program seeks to empower young journalists and content creators to produce compelling human-interest stories and digital content aligned with the modern media landscape, emphasizing freedom of expression, intercultural dialogue, and the values of tolerance and acceptance.

Umniah supported Dialogue Journalism by offering logistical assistance and contributing to the evaluation of submissions. KAICIID awarded cash prizes to three winners across three categories: written content, visual production, and social media content.

The judging panel included Dr. Ruba Zeidan, Director & Fellow at KAICIID’s Dialogue Journalism Program, media personality Saddam Rateb Majali, and Rula Nassraween, CSR Sr. Supervisor at Umniah.

Dialogue Journalism aims to shift media focus from traditional conflict coverage to producing human-interest stories that reduce polarization and combat stereotypes. It promotes dialogue to enhance cultural understanding and build bridges of communication.

Wajeeha Al-Husseini, Director of Brand & Corporate Communications at Umniah, expressed pride in the company’s role in empowering young journalists and fostering dialogue through media. She reaffirmed Umniah’s commitment to supporting Arab youth and amplifying diverse voices that reflect Arab culture and values.

Al-Husseini emphasized that Umniah’s support for Dialogue Journalism aims to cultivate a new generation of journalists promoting inclusivity and harmony. She praised KAICIID’s efforts in advancing dialogue and cultural understanding.

Dr. Zeidan highlighted the program’s role in empowering youth to create meaningful content for humanitarian causes. She praised the participants for presenting inspiring stories that showcased individual struggles and effectively used media to promote understanding and tolerance.

Majali emphasized the importance of such programs in empowering youth and providing them with the tools to create objective and impactful media content. He noted that the program opens new opportunities for young journalists to work effectively and responsibly.
