The Tank and Int@j launch Mentorship Program for Startups

February xx, 2021 – Amman, Jordan: As part of Umniah’s business incubator, The Tank ‘s partnership with the Information and Communications Technology Association of Jordan (int@j). The Tank has launched Int@j’s mentorship program for Jordanian startups, in cooperation with StartupsJo.

The mentorship program was launched as part of The Tank’s efforts to support startups in expanding their network. The Tank conducted an introductory session, in collaboration with int@j about the program and its expected outcomes. Five incubated startups were matched with six mentors with expertise in product development, business planning, management, e-commerce, marketing, sales, intellectual property rights, social enterprise, and legal advice. Startups had the chance to meet their mentors at a meeting that outlined the program’s guidelines for the duration of the mentorship, and the follow-up process to track their progress.

Umniah CEO Ziad Shatara spoke of the extensive efforts by The Tank, int@j and StartupsJo to support entrepreneurs and startups, providing them with the guidance and advisory services needed to launch their ideas and turn them into successful businesses. Shatara added that The Tank realized early on the importance of creating a balanced entrepreneurial environment by providing support, direction and training to entrepreneurs in order to help expand their networks of both local or international investors and partners. This program, according to Shatara, will work to develop the personal and creative skills of entrepreneurs through mentorship in the technical, legal and business development arenas.

Shatara went on to say that the program will see the active participation of highly experienced mentors, who will provide their full support and expertise to the startups involved in the program, as well as offer them communication and leadership skills. The program’s mentors all bring with them a balanced perspective that will be conveyed to attendees in a holistic manner, advising them in ways that will advance their ideas and develop their abilities to handle challenges, obstacles and opportunities in more efficient ways.

Int@j Chairman Dr. Bashar Hawamdeh spoke of Umniah’s pivotal role in the entrepreneurship sector, adding that The Tank has become a model in its field. Dr. Hawamdeh went on to say that the mentorship program is a proactive step for entrepreneurs and startups, helping them achieve their business goals. He spoke of the importance of encouraging entrepreneurial youth, adding that they are an essential component to challenging the increase in unemployment and steering the pattern of job-seeking towards job creation.
