As part of the “Forsa Initiative” Umniah Partners with Izzat Marji Group for Forsa Initiative

November 2023

Umniah announced its collaboration and involvement in the groundbreaking initiative launched by the Izzat Marji Group under the title ‘Al-Sareeh CSR’. Through this initiative, the company will undertake the rehabilitation and restoration of the playground at Al-Sareeḥ Elementary School for Boys.

This partnership was formalized via a memorandum of understanding signed by Wajeeha Al-Husseini, Director of Communications at Umniah, and Basil Marji, Managing Director at Izzat Marji Group. The signing ceremony was attended by senior executives from both entities.

This exceptional initiative underscores the deep and potent collaboration between the public and private sectors, aimed at executing programs and projects that contribute to the advancement and growth of rural communities. The initiative brings together prominent entities such as the Crown Prince Foundation, the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, the Ministry of Agriculture, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), Nuqul Group, Harley-Davidson, McDonald’s, Municipality of Irbid, and other local institutions and companies committed to supporting this initiative.

Through this collaboration, Umniah will make a substantial impact on the Al-Sareeh area by reviving the sports areas and playgrounds of Al-Sareeh Elementary School for Boys. This comes as part of the Forsa Initiative launched by the company in partnership with the Ministry of Education in 2021, with a budget exceeding one million Jordanian Dinars. The program’s objective is to refurbish and renovate sports grounds in several government schools across all provinces of the kingdom, in order to establish an engaging and secure learning environment for students. These efforts fall within the company’s corporate social responsibility initiatives, with a focus on investing in and supporting the education sector.

For their part, the Izzat Marji Group will activate the sports facility through sports events (football and basketball tournaments), with participation from Umniah’s team. Additionally, 25 entrepreneurs will provide training to the school’s students on sports-related topics, particularly given that the sports facility will be efficiently utilized by the local community and will be maintained by the youth of Al-Sareeh.

Al-Husseini expressed her pride regarding Umniah’s participation and collaboration in this initiative led by the Izzat Marji Group. She highlighted that this initiative embodies the company’s strategy of social responsibility in elevating the living standards of rural communities and enhancing the lives of individuals in these regions.

Al-Husseini emphasized Umniah’s strong belief that collaboration and partnership between the public and private sectors serve as the foundation for achieving positive and sustainable change in society. She pointed out that Umniah is a leading company in the field of corporate social responsibility, boasting evident achievements and contributions to Jordanian society. Initiatives like Forsa have positive impacts on the educational attainment, mental and physical well-being, and cognitive and behavioral performance of students benefiting from this initiative, along with other positive outcomes.

Basil Marji, Managing Director at Izzat Marji Group, expressed appreciation for Umniah’s significant role in this initiative, affirming that they highly value Umniah’s participation in the Al-Sareeh CSR initiative. He regarded this participation as crucial to the success of this ambitious project, emphasizing that their collaboration reflects their shared commitment to achieving sustainable development and improving the lives of individuals in rural and underserved areas.

Lina Hourani, CSR Division Director at Izzat Marji Group, added that this initiative underscores the company’s social role and responsibility towards the communities in which it operates. She stated, “We are committed to making a genuine positive impact through our social projects, developing the Al-Sareeh area, and enhancing the quality of life for its residents. Activating the sports facility and involving youth in sports activities and training that enhance their skills and teach them values and ethics associated with sports are integral components of our vision.”

This initiative aims to effectuate positive change in the lives of residents, develop the region, and enhance employment opportunities and available services. It is anticipated to have a substantial impact on enhancing quality of life and elevating the living standards of the local community in Al-Sareeh.

This participation signifies the efforts of individuals and institutions in executing a sustainable national project. The goal is to unite the efforts of national companies, institutions, associations, and organizations to undertake sustainable projects within less privileged areas, each according to their unique corporate social responsibility programs. This is all with the purpose of supporting education, skill development, youth empowerment, as well as economic, social, and health progress.
