First Telecommunication Provider to Offer 5G Umniah Accelerates Jordan’s Entry into the Industry 4.0 era and Officially Launches 5G in the Kingdom

Amman, 17 May 2023 – Umniah, a subsidiary of Beyon Group, announced during a press conference held today, the launch of its 5G services in the Kingdom, making it the first national telecom operator to offer this service in Irbid, Zarqa and in the capital, Amman.
The press conference was attended by His Excellency the Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Ahmed Al-Hanandeh, and Bassam Al-Sarhan, the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, as well as representatives from Ericsson, local and regional media representative.
Umniah’s Chief Executive Officer, Faisal Qamhiyah, expressed his pride at Umniah’s achievement of being the first telecommunications operator in Jordan to launch 5G services in the major governorates of the Kingdom. He stated: “The launch of 5G services in the Kingdom is a demonstration of Umniah’s vision to be the leading provider of the latest services and most innovative communications technologies enabling Umniah to become the preferred operator for many individuals and enterprises. Moreover, it solidifies Umniah’s role as a main supporter of the digital economic transformation in Jordan.”
On his part, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Ahmed Al-Hanandeh, emphasized the importance of launching 5G services in the Kingdom, given the tremendous capabilities it will provide across all levels and sectors. He stressed the necessity of harnessing 5G technologies to access innovative digital services such as smart cities, the Internet of Things (IoT), big data, artificial intelligence, and their applications in fields like healthcare, transportation, infrastructure, education, and other vital sectors. He also highlighted the role of 5G in the successful digital transformation process in Jordan, with the increasing demand for low-latency and highly reliable electronic services.
Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission, Engineer Bassam Al-Sarhan, congratulated Umniah on the launch of 5G services. This achievement is the result of joint efforts between the public and private sectors, which started with the signing of agreements with the licensed. Since the signing of these agreements, the commission has been working to overcome all obstacles and provide incentive plans for the three companies that obtained the licenses related to 5G.
Al-Sarhan affirmed the significance of this achievement, which benefits the nation and its citizens greatly by improving the telecommunications infrastructure to keep up with the latest global technologies and services. The positive impact of this improvement will be reflected in various vital sectors, particularly the economic, healthcare, and educational sectors, by contributing to their growth, raising the level of services, and facilitating digital transformation, which has become a goal for both the public and private sectors. Consequently, it will create numerous diverse job opportunities. Therefore, we congratulate Umniah on this achievement, wishing them further progress and success. We are also certain that other companies will soon launch this service, allowing individuals easy access to services from all companies.
Qamhiyah explained that upon obtaining the license for the 5G technology, Umniah partnered with Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) for the first phase of launching 5G by preparing for the infrastructure with the necessary platforms like network management, network integration and support. Umniah and Ericsson have also partnered to upgrade the current 4G network with the latest technologies to cater to the increased customer demand.
Qamhiyah continues: “The advantages and capabilities provided by the 5G technology, such as high speeds, low latency, and the ability to download data at higher capacities and speeds, will contribute to increasing the efficiency of services provided in many vital sectors such as health, education, energy, industry, transportation, and more. Additionally, 5G will contribute to developing applications and software based on the virtual world with high speed and efficiency.”

5G will accelerate Jordan’s entry into the Industry 4.0 era, will support the process of digital economic transformation, will create and provide more jobs and business opportunities sectors, and will increase government revenues, thus enhancing a comprehensive and sustainable economic growth. 5G also forms the cornerstone of Artificial Intelligence technologies and Internet of Things.
Umniah calls on its subscribers who have 5G-supported devices to visit any of its showrooms in the areas covered by 5G to activate the service, or request the latest 5G-supported devices, or to subscribe to the 5G home service. Subscriber can also activate Umniah’s 5G services directly from the mobile phones or through Umniah’s application.
