In line with its ongoing efforts towards enhancing its competitive advantage and providing advanced, content-rich and customer-centric services, Umniah – a subsidiary of Batelco Group – has proven to be a pioneer in the development of comprehensive telecom services that meet the dynamic needs of its customers, providing them with cutting-edge and innovative technology.

Thanks to its 3G-ready core network elements and its adoption of high capacity Softswitch technology, Umniah is capable of offering significantly increased spectrum capacity, which will help augment its customer base and volume of service product functionality.

Umniah’s repertoire of prominent achievements includes the following:

  • Umniah’s Intelligent Network and Value Added Services (VAS) platforms offer a variety of existing and new services with features that distinguish Umniah subscribers from others. In addition to its superior voice services, Umniah offers high bandwidth for all data applications through the SMS gateway and GPRS/EDGE nationwide coverage.

  • Umniah’s adoption of the regionally unprecedented per-second billing proposition for both its prepaid and postpaid offers positioned it as the first telecom company to do so in the region, and enabled it to positively and tangibly impact the directions of the local market and the nature of proffered telecom services. The per-second billing proposition allows all Umniah subscribers to pay for the exact air time used to the nearest second, making Umniah the first and only GSM telecommunications operator in the Kingdom to offer this value proposition.

  • Umniah is the first operator in Jordan to introduce lower denomination scratch cards to the market. This made recharging prepaid lines more flexible and affordable for Umniah's prepaid customers, which corresponds with Umniah’s longstanding policy of providing quality services at highly competitive prices.

  • Umniah further strengthened its role as a market pioneer through the introduction of its ‘Aghanilak’ ringback tone service, which was the first service of its kind in Jordan. With it, subscribers can replace the standard "ring" tone heard by incoming callers with a personalized audio selection that includes jingles, songs and sound effects.

  • Umniah provides its subscribers with the opportunity to connect to the Internet at a speed of up to 256 Kbps, and is the first operator locally to use EDGE technology. Additionally, Umniah subscribers can view TV programs and access thousands of their favorite songs and videos through their handsets. 

  • Umniah is the first to offer the easy-to-use interactive Unstructured Supplementary Services Data (USSD) menu, allowing its customers to gain easy access to both infotainment services as well as customer care services. 

  • Umniah is the first in Jordan to implement a 2.75G network, which offers great coverage both inside and outside the Kingdom and provides an advanced service system.

  • Umniah is the first mobile operator in the Middle East to offer Voice SMS services for its customers. Such a service enables users to send voice messages to one another rather than typing messages, making it a faster, more efficient and reliable service.

  • Umniah is the first operator in Jordan to introduce the Umax service, its own brand for WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access). This state-of-the-art technology provides Internet users with high quality access to the Internet with no need for a landline.

  • Umniah has proven its strong development and growth capabilities as a Jordanian company; in a record period of less than five years Umniah was able to establish strong roots in Jordan's mobile telecom sector, winning the trust of Jordanian consumers and setting itself as the preferred network of choice. By its 5th anniversary mid of 2010, Umniah’s subscriber base exceeded 1.8 million subscribers, giving it a market share of over 27%.
